A high school diploma is desirable and trade school training and/or completion of a formal or informal four year apprenticeship in an associated trade such as machining, tool and die making or CNC Machining, plus a minimum of five years of extensive, recent experience in precision model or prototype shop operations. In lieu of a degree, directly related experience that would qualify the incumbent to satisfactorily perform the job duties. Directly contributes to concurrent engineering efforts of Decision Systems through development of new concepts and techniques in the machining and fabrication of new products. Accomplishes this by designing and fabricating complex mechanical parts and assemblies. Works concurrently with design engineers, manufacturing and suppliers to come up with creative and rapid solutions. Follows through by implementing solutions for prototypes, demonstrating ingenuity and innovation with machine tools and machining centers. Transforms information from prints, written instructions, sketches and oral instructions into finished working mechanisms. Efficient in the use of computer aided machine tools. Sets up and operates all types of precision tool room equipment. Uses precision measuring equipment. Machines to extremely close interrelated tolerances and finish requirements, working on devices and parts having intricate irregular shapes. May specialize in precision sheet metal work or machine work. Devises and fabricates tools required in the forming of sheet metal parts and assemblies. Fabricates all types of sheet metal parts with proficiency. Performs all necessary mathematical computations related to the dimensions, tolerances, set-up and speeds and feeds of parts and machines. Reads the most complex blueprints with full proficiency. Works well with people including design engineers, manufacturing, materiel and quality to ensure that customer needs are satisfied at all levels. Design engineers Project Materiel RDS associates and engineers. Requires a thorough knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices and shop practices, minimum of 5 years related experience. Requires experience in CNC mill programming, setup and operation, minimum of 3 years CNC related experience. Preferable experience on EzTrak and ProtTrak machines. Requires extensive knowledge of the workability of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics and other composite materials and their machining characteristics.
